Charlotte Wiles was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 23, 2022. Charlotte was born in Cadillac, Michigan to Ellen and Clarence Potter on October 27, 1920. On March 23, 1940, she married Tracy Wiles, who preceded her in death. Together they had three daughters. Charlotte died on their 82nd wedding anniversary and their souls are now united.
Charlotte enjoyed many deep friendships over the years. She was a person of generosity and kindness, who enjoyed lively conversation and democratic politics. Family always came first for her, with her friends a close second. Her quiet but strong faith helped to sustain her. Charlotte was very engaged in life, enjoying reading, playing cards, stoking campfires, memorizing poetry, and playing jokes on her grandchildren. Hers was a lively spirit.
An excellent cook and hostess, she loved sharing food with family and friends. Charlotte displayed a strong work ethic and held a number of jobs in her life, from shoe sales to business ownership. She taught her family valuable life lessons about unconditional love, honesty, truthfulness, money management, organization and planning, and caring about others.
Charlotte will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Judy Draper, Susan Meston, and Alice (Gary) Starkweather; grandchildren, Fred (Kristine Mast) Meston, Dwight (Shannon) Meston, Adam (Tracy) Starkweather, and TJ Starkweather; 10 great-grandchildren: Lexie, Nick, Caitie, Joe, Mal, Clark, Max, Rachel, Emmy, and JoJo; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Nancy Davey; and sons-in-law, William Draper and Milton Meston.
A Service in Celebration of Charlotte’s life will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
