Charles “Chuck” Edward Benes, Sr.

Charles “Chuck” Edward Benes, Sr., age 84 of Grand Haven, passed away on December 28, 2020 at a local care facility. He was born on January 20, 1936 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Jerry and Violet (Rezny) Benes.

Chuck graduated from Grand Haven High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Marine Corps. He married Phyllis Ann Potter on July 6, 1957 in Grand Haven, MI. She preceded him in death on July 26, 2019 after almost 62 years of marriage.

Chuck was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven, and worked as a craftsman for Redi-Wood Manufacturing Co. for several years before his retirement. He loved to fish and hunt, and loved taking rides in the car and going shopping at second-hand stores. Chuck also loved sports and was a huge Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers fan.

Chuck is lovingly remembered and missed by his daughter, Violet Phipps of Grand Haven; his five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and his sisters-in-law, Betty Rezny and Nancy Benes.

In addition to his wife, Phyllis, Chuck was also preceded in death by his son, Charles E. Benes, Jr. in 2014; brothers, George Rezny, Bobby (Phyllis) Benes, and John Benes; and his sisters, Anna (Gordon) Widing, Rose Henry, and Marie (Dick) Goresch.

A Celebration of Life for Chuck will take place at a later date to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Harbor Humane Society.
