Charles “Charlie” Edward Fett, age 88 of Grand Haven, passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at home. He was born on October 2, 1931 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Walter and Nellie (Ruiter) Fett.
Charlie graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1949 and then proudly served his country in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1954. Upon his discharge, he worked for Eagle Ottawa Leather and then became a well-known mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 26 years. He married Darlene Beckman on November 3, 1956 in Grand Haven, MI.
Charlie was a big sports fan who loved attending Buccaneer football games, golfing, going to the casino, and working out in his yard.
Charlie will be lovingly remembered and missed by his daughter, Jill (Tom) Osbeck of Chelsea, MI; granddaughters, Elise (Nick) Roberds, Hannah Osbeck, and Delaney Osbeck; brothers, Richard, Jim (Joan), Gene (Phyllis), Gary (Ruth Ann) Fett; brothers-in-law, Tom “Verne” Beckman and Gary Beckman; along with several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter Fett Jr. and Eugene Fett; and sisters-in-law, Joyce and Marion Fett.
His wife, Darlene, passed away on September 20, 2021.
A combined Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Charlie and Darlene will take place at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, December 17, 2021, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating. Full Military Honors for Charlie will be performed by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
