Carolyn K. (Furgason) Casemier-Rotz

Carolyn Casemier-Rotz, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 in Grand Haven, MI. She was born on June 14, 1938 (Flag Day) in Sanford, Michigan, the daughter of Lionel and Dorotha (Kirkey) Furgason.

Carolyn was always interested in the world around her. She loved to read, learn new things, and travel. She enjoyed tennis, golf, and downhill skiing. She was also a passionate gardener, wonderful cook, and talented artist. Her love of drawing and structures, particularly those of Frank Lloyd Wright, resulted in her becoming an accomplished architectural designer.

Carolyn’s family was her main priority. She met Jay Casemier in 1959, when she traveled to Grand Haven for a job interview. While in town, she had coffee at Presley’s Pharmacy where Jay was the pharmacist; it was love at first sight and they wed in 1960. They had three daughters who fondly recall Carolyn hosting fabulous birthday parties, graduation parties, and holiday gatherings.

When Jay passed away from cancer in 2004, Carolyn began playing senior’s tennis, where she met Dr. Lloyd Rotz, who was a widower. They began dating, learning that they shared common interests. They married in 2011 and traveled the world together making new friends along the way.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd Rotz; daughters, Cyndi Casemier, Cammie (Dave) Heatherington, and Christi (Tom) Lindow ; step-children, Jeff (Patti) Rotz, Steve (Darcy) Rotz, and Christy Reynolds; grandchildren: Theodore (Elizabeth) Patton, Travis (Amy) Patton, Camille Johnson, Brittney Heatherington, Andrew Heatherington, Jonathan Lindow, Alexander Lindow, Justin Lindow, and Rachel Lindow; great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Jack Patton; and her brother, Larry Furgason.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Jay Casemier; and siblings, Marolyn Furgason, Daryl Laitila, and Ted Furgason.

A Celebration of Life Visitation for Carolyn will take place on Saturday, September 2, 2023, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with a toast to Carolyn’s life at 5:00 p.m.
