Carol Frances (Tragna) Van Cura

Carol Frances Van Cura, age 87 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at home. She was born on September 17, 1936 in Chicago, IL to the late Tony and Dorothy (Swikowski) Tragna. Carol married Emil Van Cura, Jr. on February 12, 1955 in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on May 22, 2015 after 60 years of marriage.

Carol graduated from Grand Haven High School and was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven. She worked as a school bus driver for Grand Haven Area Public Schools for over 35 years before her retirement.

Carol was an accomplished piano and accordion player, and a professional accordion instructor in Grand Rapids. She enjoyed shopping (especially for purses) and quilting, and was involved in several local quilting clubs. Carol also loved riding motorcycles and taught that love to her two sons.

Carol will be lovingly remembered and missed by her two sons, Greg (Mary) Van Cura of Fort Pierce, FL, and Scott (Vikki) Van Cura of Whitehall, MI; many grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Dollie (John) Ennenga and Rita (Dale) Foster; several nieces and nephews; and her special longtime canine companion, Duecie.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and her son, Douglas Van Cura in 2020.

A Graveside Service for Carol will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20, 2023 at Grand Haven Twp. Lakeshore Cemetery with Chaplain Nathaniel Schmidt officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests Memorial Contributions be made to Scott Van Cura for a fund established for those who cannot afford music lessons.
