Carla Kay Herlein, age 59, of Spring Lake passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, June 1, 2018. Carla was born October 30, 1958 in Grand Haven to the late Leslie and Ruth (Kops) Martin. She married Larry Herlein on May 19, 1979 in Grand Haven. Carla lived in the Grand Haven area all of her life and was employed in the Retail/Fashion industry for many years. She was a very active member of the Coastal Community Church, loved listening to K-Love Christian Radio and being with her many friends and family. Carla referred to herself as the Grand Haven Picker because she and Larry ran a mini business selling used goods on line, and being with her many friends in the West Michigan Boot Scooters.
She is survived by her loving husband, Larry of 39 years; daughters, Kari Herlein of Chicago, IL and Kelsey Herlein of Grand Rapids; son, Kyle (Jaime) Herlein of Spring Lake and precious granddaughter, Lucy Herlein; also surviving is her brother, Gary (Pam) Martin of Mansfield, OH; In-laws, Linda (Dan) Shepherd of Bradenton, FL. and Vaughn Umphrey of West Olive; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Gail Umphrey.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. The Funeral Service for Carla will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Coastal Community Church, 12932 168th Ave, Grand Haven, with Pastor Ron McClain officiating. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Carla’s name may be given to Coastal Community Church.
