Carl “David” Schroeder, age 80 of Grand Haven, passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 27, 1943 in Muskegon, MI to the late Carl and Stephie (Prudick) Schroeder. David married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Albertson, on September 16, 1967 in Grand Rapids, MI.
David graduated from Grand Haven High School and attended Ferris State University, taking classes in Architecture. Building things was his natural gift. He started out his working career working for his family’s construction business, Schroeder Brothers, then working in sales for many years selling various products. David later owned a successful Steel Building business, his own snowplowing service, and also became a successful charter boat Captain and co-owner of his own charter boat fishing business, West Michigan Charters out of Grand Haven. David later branched out and owned his own insurance company. He retired from selling supplemental health, life insurance and annuities.
David was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post #28 for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast who loved hunting, fishing, gardening and building birdhouses with wood in his spare time. He also enjoyed golfing and playing cards with friends. He loved watching college football (University of Michigan) and The Detroit Tigers baseball.
David will be forever remembered and missed by his wife of 56 years, Mary Ellen; and their two daughters, DeAnne (Jerry) McCammon and Myndi Schroeder; two beloved grandchildren, Paige (Josh) DeJonge and Jake Sloan; his brother, Alan Schroeder; and niece, Megan Schroeder.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Mark Schroeder.
A private graveside service will take place at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
