Carl Pitcher, age 70 of Spring Lake, got his wings and went to join his family and friends waiting for him in Heaven on Sunday, September 29, 2019. Carl was born in Muskegon, Michigan on June 6, 1949 to Lyle and Ruth (Farmer) Pitcher. He married Lynne Schramski on May 30, 1992.
Carl graduated from Mona Shores High School and served our Country in the Vietnam War where he was exposed to Agent Orange. He was employed for several years at UPS and then for 27 years at Muskegon County Airport in the maintenance department, and retired in 2006. With his love of the outdoors, Carl enjoyed backpacking and hiked several times North and South Manitou Islands where he also volunteered for the National Park Service, and was very instrumental in the restoration of the 1898 South Manitou Island School House which received a Historic Preservation Award in 2009. Carl also hiked the Grand Canyon, Isle Royal, and a portion of the Appalachian Trail.
He enjoyed listening to music, woodworking, and riding his motorcycle. Airplanes were a big part of his life, and he could tell you the make of the plane just by the sound.
Carl is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 27 years, Lynne; brother, Jim (Maxine Dakin) Pitcher of Greenville; sister, Kathleen (Jim) Poort of Muskegon; brother-in-law, Ben (Marilyn) Schramski of North Muskegon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and good friends.
A Celebration of Life for Carl will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to thank the dedicated staff and aides of Christian Care Nursing Center-Memory Care Unit, for their love and support during Carl’s time there.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Michigan Parkinson Foundation, Wings of Mercy, or Hospice of Michigan.
