Carl William Gilmore

July 23, 1960 ~ May 12, 2022 (age 61)

Obituary

Carl William Gilmore, age 61 of Spring Lake, MI, passed away unexpectedly on May 12, 2022. A loving father, brother, and husband, he was born on July 23, 1960 in Gary, IN to Bob and Bonnie (Hess) Gilmore.

Carl graduated from Portage High School and was an Eagle Scout and a Vigil Honor Member of the Order of the Arrow. He studied economics and painting at Indiana State University in Terre Haute (class of 1984), where, as a member of the Indiana ETA Chapter of Phi Delta Theta, he met many brothers who would become life-long friends.

Carl received a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Chicago in 1993, and a Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School in 2002. He worked his way up in the futures industry, starting as a runner at the Chicago Board of Trade, and became an expert in risk management, law, and compliance.

Carl was a devoted, tenacious, and successful provider for his family. He adored spending time at the family’s cottage in Ferrysburg, Michigan, which became a venue for many memorable vacations and events. Carl was a wonderful host and enjoyed throwing parties of all kinds. He was known for his ability to chat with everyone, no matter their background. He made many friends wherever he went, with whom he shared his generosity and expansive spirit.

Carl is survived by his wife, Helen (née Wiss); his two sons, Noah (Emily) and Will (Meaghan); and his brothers, Paul (Chrissy) and Kevin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Bonnie; and his brother, Richard.

A Memorial Service will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Oak Park, Illinois.
