Bruce Allen Swanson

Bruce Allen Swanson, age 84 of Fruitport, MI, passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2023 in Norton Shores, MI. He was born on November 3, 1938 in Grand Rapids, MI to the late Lawrence and Olive (Hosler) Swanson.

Bruce graduated from Coopersville High School, Class of 1957 and served in the Army National Guard for 6 years. He married Lona Plews on April 12, 1958, and they shared 65 years of marriage.

Bruce loved to work on and fix cars which led to him being a Ford mechanic for 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed going rabbit hunting with his cherished beagles, deer and pheasant hunting with his buddies, and going weekend camping with the family. Bruce was proud of his lawn he kept looking lush and nice, which gave him much joy and pride. He was a quiet person but was full of stories to tell of posted adventures. Bruce was also a fan of NASCAR and car racing at Berlin Raceway.

Bruce is lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Lona; son, Gregory Bruce (Agnes) Swanson; daughter, Dawn Noreen (Todd) Watkins; two grandchildren, Anna Swanson and Toby Eichhorst; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded death by his three sisters, Gloria (George), Nola (Dale), and Noreen (Jim).

The Memorial Service for Bruce will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at New Creations in Christ Church (1641 E. Pontaluna Rd., Norton Shores, MI, 49456) with Pastor Donna Rick officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at Pine Hill Cemetery in Fruitport.
