Briar Lee Duarte, age 26, of Ravenna, MI, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, May 4, 2025, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. He was born on November 4, 1998, in Grand Haven, MI, to Shawn Duarte and Jennifer (Samdal) Stuhan.

Briar worked in manufacturing for a while but was mostly an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing at several spots throughout Michigan, especially at Croton and Hardy Dams. He enjoyed visiting local flea markets, going to cook-outs where he spent time with his family and friends, and he especially loved 4-wheel drive mud-running.

Briar will be forever remembered and missed by his family and many friends including his parents, Shawn Duarte (Julie Olsen) and Jennifer (Brian) Stuhan; and three daughters: Nikki, Isabella, and Elizabeth; his sister, McKenzie Duarte; brother, Wade Duarte; grandmother, Theresa Samdal; grandfather, Richard S. Duarte; great-grandmother, Elizabeth Samdal; one step-brother and two step-sisters; uncles and aunts: Derrick (Tammy) Duarte, Richard (Carla) Duarte, Jr., Bruce (Mandy) Samdal; many cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Catherine Duarte (2023); grandfather, Bruce Samdal, Sr. (2024); and his great-uncle, Michael Duarte (2024).

The Funeral Service for Briar will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Doug Bytwerk officiating. Visitation will be held the evening prior on Monday, May 12th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery.

The family requests Memorial Contributions to benefit Briar’s three children be made to Shawn Duarte c/o Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
