Betty Jean VerBerkmoes, age 93, of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Lakeshore Assisted Living-Sorrel Residence. She was born on August 9, 1932, in Grand Haven, MI, to the late Benjamin Hudson and Eva Suites. Betty married Gerald VerBerkmoes on April 16, 1983, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2025, after 42 years of marriage.
Betty attended Grand Haven High School and was a life-long resident of the area who regularly attended Robinson Grace Church for many years. She was known as a true people-person who loved being around and helping people, and she loved animals, playing board games, and working on puzzles. Betty was also a very talented cookie-baker who loved baking her famous cookies and sharing with family and friends.
Betty is lovingly remembered and missed by her three daughters: Kathy TenBrink, Tracey (Scott) VanVelzen, and Jan (Jeff) VerBerkmoes; her son, Timothy TenBrink; step-children: Patricia (Raymond) Connor, Karen (Paul) Panzegrau, Janice (Ross) Williams, Timothy (Deb) VerBerkmoes, and Rodney (Dawn) VerBerkmoes; 20 grandchildren: Jarod (Katie) VerBerkmoes, Jill Payne, Shane (Andy) Smith, Tara Inso, Alexandria (Jake) Insododson, Calvin VanVelzen, William (Christa) VerBerkmoes, Nick (Nikki) VerBerkmoes, Paula (Rob) Willis, Molly (Chris) Holmes, Matthew Panzegrau, Stephanie (Kevin) Rowe, Luke (Katherine) Williams, Shelby VerBerkmoes, Lindsey (Jeremy) Diller, Cassidy VerBerkmoes, Isaac VerBerkmoes, Katie (William) Hughes, Re'Shon VerBerkmoes, and Ramsey Weber; 25 great-grandchildren; a niece who is like a daughter to Betty, Jodie Muskovin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald; the father of her children, Jack Ten Brink; daughter, Christie Ten Brink; grandson, Jace VerBerkmoes; two sisters; five brothers; her daughter-in-law, Diana Ten Brink; and son-in-law, Dale Overbeek.
The Funeral Service for Betty will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Russell officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Grand Haven Salvation Army.
