BertaMary (Carskadon) Meyer

BertaMary Meyer, age 68 of Spring Lake, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at home. She was born on July 17, 1955 in Grand Haven, MI to the late John and Mary (Tufts) Carskadon. Berta married Donald A. Meyer on July 24, 1972 in Ferrysburg, MI.

Berta was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven and Spring Lake. She attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School, and later, Grand Haven High School. She worked as a CNA at North Ottawa Community Care Center, as well as Sawyer Homes, which she was at for many years.

Berta was a plate collector who enjoyed doing needlepoint and reading books. She also had a big heart and loved working with and helping senior citizens. Berta’s family was of utmost importance to her, and annual family vacations were required. She was most known as being a quick-witted and very funny soul who will be remembered by anyone who was lucky enough to know her.

Berta will be lovingly remembered and missed by her beloved husband of 51 years, Donald; and their daughter, Jennifer (Walter) Pippel of Fruitport; two sons, Jonathan (Lori) Meyer of Nunica and James (Corie) Meyer of Spring Lake; 11 grandchildren: Kaylee, Katelyn, Jacob, and Jaxen Meyer, Bobby and Ella Canfield, Hunter DuBridge, Madeline, Collin, Allison Stafford, and Katelyn Messer; sisters: Ruth (Dave) Ray, Amy Umlor, and Danni Carskadon; brothers, Joe (Lori) Carskadon and Frank (Gail) Carskadon; and her sister-in-law, Beverly Carskadon.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Tim Carskadon; sister, Cate Russell; and parents-in-law, Orie and Eleanor Meyer.

A Celebration of Life Gathering for Berta will take place on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Word of Hope Church (284 N. 3rd Ave. Fruitport, MI, 49415).

The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer’s Association - Michigan Chapter or the C.O.P.D. Foundation.
