Barbara Dian Fickes, age 77 of Grand Haven, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Holland Hospital. She was born on April 9, 1945 in Lafayette, IN to the late Charles and Flora (Ratcliff) Pope. Barbara married William H. “Bill” Fickes on April 20, 1969, in Lafayette.
Barbara graduated from Lafayette Jefferson High School and went on to graduate from Purdue University with her LPN degree. She worked as a nurse in several healthcare settings, starting out at Lafayette Home Hospital, and retiring from a Pediatrician’s office in Grand Rapids, which she worked at for many years.
Barbara was a true and faithful believer in Jesus Christ. As a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Haven, she was very active with many ministries within the church throughout the years. She was mostly known for her very kind heart and selfless actions; very humble, and never wanting to be in the spotlight. Barbara’s selfless heart led her to start her own ministry, going into local nursing homes to bring flowers to the residents and visit with them.
Her family was of utmost importance to her, and she relished spending as much time with them as she could, whenever possible.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her beloved husband of 53 years, Bill; and their two children: daughter, Anne C. Fickes of Yarmouth, Maine; and son, John R. (Heather) Fickes of Grand Haven; as well as two sisters, Connie (Tom) Wiese and Veronica Cleaver. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A private Graveside Service for Barbara will take place at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery, with Rev. Dr. Troy Hauser Brydon officiating.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Feeding America-West Michigan.
