Avis Haan (VanBemelen) VanRaalte

Avis Haan VanRaalte, age 97 of Grand Haven, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Robbinswood Assisted Living. She was born on November 16, 1923 in Grand Haven, MI to the late John and Martje “Minnie” (Haan) VanBemelen. Avis was previously married to Collis Kalman and he preceded her in death in 1997.

Avis graduated from Grand Haven High School, Class of 1941 and was a life-long resident of Grand Haven. She worked as an accountant for Bastian Blessing for several years and attended St. Paul’s United Church of Christ.

Avis was a member of the American Legion Post 28 Auxiliary who enjoyed playing cards and watching the Detroit Tigers play.

Avis is lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Beverly Gordon (Peter Frisch) of Denver, NC; two grandchildren: David (Kim) Gordon, and Bradley (Sunshine) Gordon; and four great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Lauren, Olivia, and Thomas Gordon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Collis; son, Ron Bruhn; sister, Jean Martin; and three brothers: Clyde, Marvin, and Bud VanBemelen.

Private family services will be held. Interment will be at Elbridge Cemetery in Hart, MI.
