Alvin L. Jonker, age 97 of Bonita Springs, FL (formerly of Grand Haven), passed away on November 12, 2021 at Hope Network facility in Bonita Springs. He was born on August 15, 1924 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Hartger and Irene (Webster) Jonker. Al married Phyllis Robinson on June 23, 1955 in Olivet, MI.
Al graduated from Grand Haven High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He then married Phyllis Robinson on June 23, 1955 in Olivet, MI. Al owned and operated Jonker Hardware Store for 55 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Spring Lake Country Club, Tri-Cities Kiwanis Club, Grand Haven City Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Unlimited. He also served as City Planning Commissioner for six years.
Al loved to play tennis and was a fix-it type guy who loved do-it-yourself home projects and working on homes.
Al is remembered and missed by his wife of 66 years, Phyllis; his daughter, Valerie Jonker; son, Tom Jonker (Lynn Spencer) of Grand Haven; granddaughter, Emma Wirtz; his brother, Ken (Barbara) Jonker; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Nancy Stoner and Mary Ann Evans.
In accordance of his wishes, there will be no formal service held. Interment will take place at Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven.
