Allen Ray Johnson

Allen Ray Johnson, age 68 of Spring Lake passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 at home surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 26, 1950 to Orland and Anna (Bryant) Johnson in Grand Haven, MI. He graduated from Spring Lake High School in 1968. Al married Catherine Zanfardino on September 20, 1996 in Grand Haven. He worked for Challenge Machinery for 44 years before retiring in 2012. He was a proud member of the United States Army, and the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28.  Allen loved to hunt, fish, camp, ice skate, snow shoe, and do anything outdoors. He also enjoyed playing cribbage, and tending to his garden.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; step-daughter, Jessica (Mike) Zajac of Spring Lake; son, Michael (Amy) Correia; nine grandchildren; Alyssa, Collin, Sebastian, Giana, Aidan, Holly, Noah, Riah, and Berkleigh , his  mother and father in law, Joe and Ruth Zanfardino; two sisters, Sue (Mike) Brown of Grand Haven, Caroline Zeeff of Grand Haven; two sisters-in law, Sue (Earl) Martin of Spring Lake, Caroline Zanfardino of Grand Haven; three brothers-in-law, Joe Zanfardino of Grand Haven, Bob Zanfardino of New York, John Zanfardino of South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, and granddaughter Lily May.

The Funeral Service for Allen will be on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Yoshonis officiating. Full Military Rites will be performed by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28. Visitation will be Wednesday May 9, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of North Ottawa or the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28.
