Alan Duane Potter, age 87, of Robinson Township, passed away on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Lakeshore Assisted Living. He was born on September 25, 1938, in Coopersville, MI, to the late Cornelius and Gertrude (Hoekstra) Potter. Al married Helen Eding on October 10, 1959, in Byron Center, MI.
Al spent his career working as a Tool & Die-maker at Crampton Mfg. Co., and later, worked and retired from John Zelenka Evergreen Nursery where he was a mechanic and then supervisor. He was very mechanically inclined and loved to work on trucks and tractors, especially John Deere tractors.
Al was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed the great outdoors and loved time spent hunting, fishing, and camping. He was most proud of the time when the 650-pound Elk, which he hunted in Northern Michigan, won largest rack and was featured in Michigan Outdoors Magazine. Al loved nothing more than hunting, camping with family, and fishing from his charter or pontoon boat.
Al will be forever remembered and missed by his loving wife of 66 years, Helen; and their three children: Dwayne (Lorrie) Potter, Amy (Frank) Kaiser, Dana (Ken) Hanson; his seven grandchildren: Erica, Brandon, Jordan (Sarah), Jason, Katie (Kyle), Alaina (Wyatt), and Alicia; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Funeral Service for Al will take place at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Elzinga officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Robinson Township Cemetery.
