A.J. Clark III, age 65, of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at home. He was born on September 14, 1958 in Wyandotte, MI, to Alfred and Pauline (Dupea) Clark, Jr. On December 20, 1980, A.J. married Jan Reis in Taylor, MI.
After graduating from John F. Kennedy High School in 1976, he proudly began a 22-year active-duty career serving our country in the US Navy (1976 - 1987), then the US Coast Guard (1987 - 1998). He was a proud member of the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin, Post 28, and was dedicated to teaching American pride and heritage.
Upon his retirement from the military, A.J. started “Onthelevel," a handyman company specializing in the small jobs that no one else would do. Built on honesty and reliability, he was consistently busy from 1998 until 2024.
As a lifelong Boy Scout, A.J. earned the highest rank of Eagle, at the age of 13. Raising both of his sons in a life of Scouting, they also earned the rank of Eagle Scout.
He enjoyed gardening, cooking, riding his motorcycle, pontoon boating and frequent fire pits with family and friends. He loved wildlife and had a way with animals. A jack of all trades, he also took pleasure fabricating in both wood and metal. A.J. was known for always helping others and giving big hugs.
He will be forever remembered and missed by his mother, Pauline Clark; his loving wife of 43 years, Jan; his two sons and their wives: A.J. Clark IV (Elsie Thompson) and Reis (Michelle) Clark; and three grandchildren.
