Tammy Sue Schmidt, age 58 of Grand Haven, passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019 at home. She was born on December 20, 1960 in Plainwell, MI to Roger and Sue (Wilson) Holmes. Tammy married Charles Schmidt on March 15, 1984 in Grand Haven.
Tammy was a life-long resident of Grand Haven and graduate of Grand Haven High School’s Class of 1979. She worked for Ferrysburg Elementary School as a Playground Supervisor and St. John’s Lutheran School, serving hot lunch to the students for many years. Tammy also worked for Kysor/Medallion for several years. Tammy liked traveling, camping, and was an avid Nascar fan. She enjoyed working in her garden and stewing and canning tomatoes to make her hot salsa, which she was known for. Tammy loved life and loved spending time with her family, especially her four grandchildren, whom she was very involved with.
Tammy will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 35 years, Charles; daughter, Ryann (Chad) Ortman of Grand Haven; son, Charles (Stephanie Oraz) Schmidt of Grand Haven; grandchildren: Peyton, Ethan, Amiyah, Olivia; her parents, Roger and Sue Holmes; sister, Terri (Jeff) Hoffman of Grand Haven; brothers, Todd (Brenda) Holmes of Fruitport, Tal (Heidi) Holmes of Spring Lake, Troy Holmes of Spring Lake; in-laws, Mark (Holly) Schmidt and Mike (Amy) Schmidt; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Fred and Francis Schmidt; and brother-in-law, Kenneth Schmidt.
The Celebration of Life for Tammy will be at 4 PM on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Hope Reformed Church with Pastor Tim Taylor officiating. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be given to Autism Support of Westshore.
