Shirleyan Ruth (Subject) Gurniak

Shirleyan Gurniak age 89, of Grand Haven passed away Sunday April 21, 2019 at home surrounded by family. Shirley was born October 6, 1929 in Detroit to Russell and Irene (Hawkins) Subject.

She graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1948 and was employed by Detroit Public Schools in Administration until her retirement. Shirley moved to Grand Haven in 2002 in order to be closer to her family. You didn't DARE call her on Saturday between 7:00 - 8:00 pm when Lawrence Welk was on. She loved all types of music and dancing, as well as working in her garden.  Most of all, she was an entertainer, and loved hosting people in her home. 

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Veronica (Dennis) Mykols of Spring Lake;  step-grandchildren, David (Jennifer) Mykols, Donald Mykols, and Daniel (Julie) Mykols; and 5 step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Michael Gurniak.

A Memorial Service for Shirley will be 11:00 AM Saturday May 11, 2019 from Fruitport Congregational Church with Pastor Dr. Donna Rick officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice.
