Shelly Beth Young, age 53 of Grand Haven, passed away in her home on the afternoon of Sunday, April 28, 2019. She was born on February 16, 1966 in Grand Haven, MI to Milton Edward “Bill” and Kay (Lemunyon) Start. Shelly married the love of her life, Daniel Young, on September 24, 1994 in Grand Haven.
Shelly was a lifelong resident of the Tri-Cities area, and graduated from Spring Lake High School. She attended the Grand Haven Church of the Nazarene for many years. Shelly was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 925 Auxiliary, where she was named the “Mother of the Year.” She donated much of her time over the years helping with fundraisers to assist the club and its members.
Shelly enjoyed watching Nascar and was a very dedicated U of M and Patriots football fan. Superbowl was one of her favorite events of the year. She also loved the summer months and could almost always be found hanging out at the pool with her friends, sunbathing on her back patio, or walking the beach. She was fascinated by sharks and loved watching “Shark Week” on television every year. Most of all, Shelly was a kindhearted and fun-loving person who brought light into the lives of all who were blessed with her company.
Shelly is lovingly remembered and missed by her husband, Dan; her daughter, Brooke Young of Grand Haven; sisters, Pamela (Mike) Ledford of Grand Haven and Kris (Mark) Rosema of Tucson, AZ; brother, Bill (Krista) Start of Spring Lake; several nieces and nephews; and countless close friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at the Grand Haven Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Ron Helier officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Church or to Harbor Hospice.
