Romana C. Carr, age 98, of Grand Haven, MI and formerly of Portsmouth, RI passed away on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at a care facility in Grand Haven. She was born on March 27, 1920 to the late Jack and Emily (Rodeschinnni) LaTorre in New York, NY. Romana married Richard J. Carr of Rhode Island on June 29, 1945 and they remained a devoted and loving couple for 63 years, until Richard’s death in 2008.
Until her move to Grand Haven to be with her niece, Betty LaTorre Fleming, Romana was a very active member of St. Barnabas Catholic Church, a volunteer at the St. Clare Home, and an enthusiastic world traveler. She loved to visit and debate current events with her friends and family. She was an Oblate of Portsmouth Abbey. Always up for a challenge, she moved halfway across the country at age 92!
Romany will be lovingly missed and remembered by her nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her two younger brothers, Jack and AJ.
A Graveside Service for Romana will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM at St. Columba’s Cemetery in Middletown, RI. She will then be buried with her beloved, Richard. Romany requested that people offer prayers and Masses for her Salvation.
