Robert "Bob" M. Appel

Robert "Bob" M. Appel, age 66 of Walkerville died Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Mercy Health Partners. Bob was born January 15, 1951 in Grand Haven to Marcus and Betty (Slieter) Appel. He attended Grand Haven High School and went on to serve his Country in the United States Army. Bob was married to Ruth Ann Drago, and then Pam Graber, who both preceded him in death. He then married Fran Smith in Grand Haven in 1993. Bob worked at Herman Miller Spring Lake plant for 32 years before his retirement. He had a love of music and was a talented musician who could play many instruments. He played with a group called The Robinson Boys for many years, using his stand-up bass guitar, banjo, or harmonica.  Bob enjoyed hunting and fishing up north but most of all just hanging out in his pole barn, visiting with friends and neighbors from down the way, or talking with anyone who wanted to stop by the barn and spend a little time. He was also a member of the VFW Don Rea Post 8846, North Muskegon. Bob is survived by his mother, Betty Appel; his loving wife Fran; his children, Tina Tokar and Dan (Dana) Appel; step-children, Tina (Kevin) McFall, Kay (Greg) Mauberg and William Hill Jr; sisters, Kathy (Ted) Raggl, Debbie (Tom) Herringa, Cindy (Bud) Crow and brother David Appel. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his father, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. The Celebration of Life for Bob will be on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at the Grand Haven VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post 2326 at 2:00 p.m. with full military rites. Interment will be in Robinson Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
