Phyllis E. Dahlman, age 87 of Spring Lake, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, November 11, 2018. Phyllis was born on April 17, 1931 in Grand Rapids; the daughter of Albert and Alice (VanderLaan) Piersma. She graduated from Grand Rapids Christian School. Phyllis married Carl Dahlman on October 3, 1952 in Grand Rapids and together they raised five children. He preceded her in death in 2016.
Phyllis lived in California for nine years and upon returning to Grand Haven, took a job with Ottawa County in 1969. She was elected Register of Deeds in 1980 and went on to serve four and a half terms from 1980-1998 until her retirement. She was a member of the Business and Professional Woman's Association and was an active member of the Ottawa County Republican Party, having served as their Chairperson. She was also a member of Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church, volunteering in several capacities there. She could brighten the mood of anyone she came in contact with through her quick wit, bright smile, and snazzy sense of stylish earrings. She was known as a friend to everyone.
Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Barbara VanOstran; and sons; Bruce (Patty), Larry (Heidi), Ken (Shirley) and Douglas (Kelly) Dahlman; 15 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Ernie) Leep; brother, Leslie (Marylou) Piersma; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clare, Pete, and Elton Piersma; and brother-in-law, Paul Dahlman.
The Funeral Service for Phyllis will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Jim VanderMeiden officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 13th from 4 to 7 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Love in Action or Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church Youth Programs.
