Phyllis Irene Beukema, age 94 of Grand Haven passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018 in Grand Haven. She was born December 1, 1923 in Centreville, MI to the late Charles and Florence (Frick) Boss. She married Cornell Beukema on March 29, 1945 in Lansing, MI, and they were married for 71 years before his passing December 11, 2016. After High School, Phyllis attended Michigan State University where she received her Master’s degree in Education. Her career path led her to several positions in education. She was an Adult Enrichment instructor for Lansing Public Schools, followed by many years teaching at Lansing Community College and Muskegon Community College. Phyllis was a former member of Central Methodist Church in Lansing, as well as Mount Hope Methodist Church, also in Lansing.
She is lovingly remembered and missed by her four daughters, Marsha Rosenberg of Calumet, MI, Kristi (Kenneth Widing) Beukema of Spring Lake, Jan (Ron Norton) Beukema of Grand Haven, Leslie (Dennis) Sotala of Calumet; and several nieces and nephews. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Harriet Lake from Saline, MI.
A Memorial Service for Phyllis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2018, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, with the Rev Dan Anderson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation- Kitchel Lindquist Hartger Dune Preserve Fund.
