Peter Appel, age 85 of Grand Haven, passed away Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Mercy Hospital. He was born August 9, 1933 in Grand Haven to the late Joseph and Helen (Weitz) Appel. Pete married Arlene Siemon, who preceded him in death on April 13, 1991. He then married Carol Lehman in 1992, and she preceded him in death on June 16, 2018 after 25 years of marriage.
Pete worked as a welder for Dake Corporation, and later for Integrated Metal Technology of Spring Lake. Peter had an interest in wood working, and had a knack for fixing anything mechanical, and also built the house that he and his family lived in. Peter operated a farm as well, caring for pigs and food crops on the land. He was musically inclined, enjoyed traveling and spending time with his many grandchildren.
Peter will be fondly remembered and missed by his two daughters, Brenda (David) Dotson and Rosalie (Robin) Smith all of Grand Haven; two sons, Fred Appel of Ruby Creek and Richard Appel of Coopersville; step-sons, Rick (April) Rodgers and Wayne (Lisa) Rodgers; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Katherine (David) Harden of Grand Haven; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wives Arlene and Carol; seven brothers; and four sisters.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 13421 Green St., Grand Haven with Father Charles Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 20th at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Robinson Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
