Michael J. Johnson Sr.

Michael J. Johnson Sr., age 64 of Grand Haven, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 1, 2019 at Mercy Hospital. He was born on April 10, 1954 in Grand Haven to the late William and Sarah (Naerebout) Johnson. On September 28, 1974 Mike married the love of his life, June (Rowell) Johnson in Grand Haven. She preceded him in death on June 14, 2018 after 43 years of marriage.

Mike worked as a CNC Operator at AGC Manufacturing for several years before his retirement in January of this year. He was a 35 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #925, and served as Trustee for over 12 years. In 1997, him and his wife, June started the first Coast Guard Festival Entertainment Tent hosted by the Eagles. Together, they were very instrumental in recruiting volunteers and making sure everyone had fun.

Mike enjoyed all sports, especially U of M football. He loved to travel with June by his side; their most memorable trip was going to Mexico before her passing. Mike loved spending time with his family and friends and will be remembered for his sense of humor and kind heart.

He is loved and missed by his daughter, Michelle (Cory) Stillson of Muskegon; son, Michael (Lisa) Johnson II of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Ashley, Kelley, T.J., Alexis, Serena, Christopher, and Tyler Holm; sister, Donna (Duke) Johnson; sisters-in-law, Emily (Jess) Jewell and Betty (Jack) Wydeck; brothers-in-law, Chuck (Carla) Rowell and George Rowell; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mike was preceded in death by his wife; brother, Bill Johnson Jr.; and sister, Dee Johnson.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 3 to 6 pm in the Social Room at the Grand Haven Eagles, 20 N. Second St., Grand Haven.
