On December 8, 2018, Margie Ann Olthof, age 92 of Grand Haven, was called to her heavenly home where she was reunited with her husband of more than 70 years, John Olthof, who passed away on May 23, 2017.
Family was very important to Margie. She enjoyed camping with them and attending family gatherings, where she would win nearly every card game she ever played. Margie was active in the community, serving as a volunteer in many capacities including Cub Scouts, church groups, Head Start, and the Senior Center. She loved children and babies, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Margie was always able to calm a crying infant with her special techniques. She was known for making her Indian Berry Pie and Noodles Taliaferro. Margie was a hard worker and was employed outside the home most of her life, but her favorite job came in her “retirement” when she worked at Burger King, hosting children’s birthday parties and running the weekly senior Bingo games. She loved her Savior with all her heart and was eager to meet Him face to face, hoping that if there were jobs to do in heaven, she would be assigned to work with children.
The family is forever grateful to the staff of Christian Haven Home, Heart and Hands In Home Care, and Great Lakes Caring Hospice for their tender mercies these last months.
Margie is survived by her children; Ronald (Nancy) Olthof, Richard (Susan) Olthof, and Sue Nanninga; grandchildren, Julie (Jim) Marklevitz, Dan (Billie) Olthof, Scott (Becky) Olthof, Lisa (Cliffton) Young, Jill DeBoer, Matt (Cassie) Nanninga, Becky (Brian) Mitchell, Betsy (Justin) Olenik, and David (Dianna) Olthof; 18 great-grandchildren; her sister, Carolyn Sytsma; and sisters-in-law, Sandy Olthof and Coralyn (Bill) Postma. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; son-in-law, Paul Nanninga; and her brothers, Bernie and Curt Dood.
The Memorial Service will be at 3:00 PM on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Contributions in Margie’s memory may be made to Christian Haven Home.
