Mr. Joseph F. Maka, age 74, of Robinson Township passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born July 29, 1944 in Grand Haven to the late Joseph and Helen (Lakowicz) Maka. Joe proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967 during the Vietnam War. He married the former Bonnie Davis on February 27, 1982 in Grand Haven. Joe worked as a machine repairman for 47 years at a local manufacturing company. He was a member of St. Patrick’s/St. Anthony’s Parish, member of the Knights of Columbus and the VFW Post #3195 in Muskegon. Joe was an avid hunter, fisherman (he holds the Michigan record since 1974 catching a 7’ 3” Lake Sturgeon) and farmer, but what he loved most of all was helping people.
He is survived by his loving family; wife, Bonnie; two sons, Joe (Laura) Maka of Nunica, Phillip (Lynne) Maka of Chesapeake, VA; the apples of his eyes, grandchildren, Joey, Emma and Xander; three sisters, Kitty (Kelly) Vanden Brink of Hamilton, MI, Gerry (Bill) Adams of St. Charles, MI, and Sara Maka of Allendale, MI; two brothers; Ron (Ruth Ann) Maka of Fruitport, MI and Ray (Kathy) Maka of Allendale, MI.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at St. Patrick’s St. - Anthony’s Catholic Church. Interment will be in Robinson Township Cemetery with Full Military Honors performed by the V.F.W. Friends are invited to meet the family from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m.
