James Alan Russell, age 75 of Grand Haven, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 12, 2019. He was born on November 30, 1943 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Karl and Lucille (Whalen) Russell.
Jim graduated from Grand Haven High School and went on to proudly serve 6 years in the Army Reserves-Stateside from 1964 to 1970. He then started his career as a millwright at Kent Products in Grand Haven, and finished his career as a maintenance supervisor at Ridgeview Industries in Walker, MI.
Jim had his private flying license earlier in life, and enjoyed flying a Piper Cub airplane any change he could get. He spent his summers in Newaygo, MI and his winters in Crystal River, FL. Jim always enjoyed the challenge of troubleshooting and figuring things out and was always fixing things for others.
He was also a talented wood-carver and avid outdoorsman who enjoyed elk hunting on his lucky rock on Many Thunders Mountain in Red Feather Lakes, Colorado, and fishing on Drummond Island and in Alaska. He enjoyed spending time with his family and looked forward to them coming to camp with him; especially his half-pint grandchildren.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by the mother of his children and love of his life, Faye Russell; sons, Jeff (Dawn) Russell of Grand Haven and Joshua (Tonaleigh) Russell of Grant; daughter, Julie (Robert) Brouwer of Grand Haven; grandchildren: Natalia, Gwendolyn, Gannon, Gemma, and Dominick Russell, and Alex, Rachel, and Conner Brouwer; his faithful dog, Nik; and his many friends at both Ed Henning Park in Newaygo, and Nature Coast Landing in Crystal River, Fl. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Karl and Jean Russell; and sister, Margaret Russell.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made to Harbor Hospice of Muskegon.
