James Arthur Yonkers

James Arthur Yonkers, age 60 of Spring Lake, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2019 at a local care facility. He was born on Wednesday, May 31, 1959 in Grand Rapids, MI to Donald and Erma (Smit) Yonkers. James married Susan Guentz in 1986.

James graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Calvin College. He was a brilliant student and was most recently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Music from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. James and his wife were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where they were active in their church community. James worked at Russ’, and later, worked for Shape Corp. for 10 years. He enjoyed coin collecting and playing chess against friends. James was a big fan of Sci-Fi, and could often be found reading Sci-Fi books or watching Star Trek.

James will be missed by his wife, Susan; his parents, Donald and Erma Yonkers of Grand Haven; and his two sisters, Cathy (Daniel) Shaw of Hart, MI and Susan (Chris) Winkelman of Grand Haven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Father David Gross officiating. Memorial Contributions may be given to Klaassen Family Funeral Home In Memory of James Yonkers.
