Glenn D. Engel, age 83, of Grand Haven passed away on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Glenn was born on July 8, 1934 in Grand Haven to Peter Jr. and Lillian (Stultz) Engel. Glenn graduated from Grand Haven High School and was married to Ethel Schippers on November 12, 1955 in Spring Lake. Glenn proudly served his country in the United States Naval Reserves for 8 years. In his younger years Glenn delivered milk for Warber Dairy, and then went on to work at Bastian Blessing as a stainless steel fabricator for over 30 years.
Glenn was a life-time member of St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish. He cheerfully served with his wife Ethel for many years on the funeral lunch committee and volunteered countless hours with church upgrades and enhancements. He was a charter member and past treasurer with the local Knights of Columbus. Glenn was a Boy Scout and Cub Scout leader, and also a Little League Coach and Tiny Tikes Football coach with the NORA Program. Glenn enjoyed hunting and fishing, working at the cottage in Silver Lake, and spending time together with his family, and faithful friend dog Jack.
Glenn is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ethel; three daughters; Cindy Engel (friend Mike) of Titusville, Florida, Teresa Engel (friend Warren) of Grand Haven; Keli (Tim) Olson of Grand Haven; son, Glenn (Tricia) Engel of Ferrysburg. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lorielle, Candice, Courtney, Rachel, Rick, Taylor, and Madison, and 7 great grandchildren and brother, Dennis Engel of California. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Frances Hushyn, and brothers-in-law: George (Bonnie) Schippers, Jim (Laura) Schippers, Don (Tina) Schippers, Ron Schippers and several nieces and nephews. Glenn was preceded in death by his sister Gayle Minor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday February 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM from St. Patrick–St Anthony Parish with Fr. Charles Schwartz presiding. Visitation will be Monday February 19, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick-St. Anthony Parish.
