Doris M. Klop, age 93 of Grand Haven, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Beacon Pointe Memory Care in Portage, MI. Doris was born on December 18, 1924 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Peter and Kate (Diephuis)Van Doorne. She was a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, and then attended college prior to working in the office at American Seating Company. She married Stephen Klop Jr. on November 12, 1947 in Grand Rapids, and he preceded her in death on January 16, 1998 after just over 50 years of marriage. Doris was a long time member of First Christian Reformed Church, attended Martha-Mary Circle Bible studies and was a former member of the Grand Haven Christian School Auxiliary. She had a passion for sewing, and that hobby turned into a small business that she and her husband worked on together, serving many families in the Tri-Cities area.
Mrs. Klop is survived by her daughter, Shirley (David) Batts of Portage; sons, Stephen (Dianne) Klop III of Pickford, MI; Gary (Judy) Klop of Sault Ste. Marie; grandchildren Andrue, Cynthia, Aaron, Audrey, and their spouses; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and special friends. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Janice Mae; sister, Stella Bergman; and brothers, Kenneth and Clarence Van Doorne.
The Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 25, 2018, at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Rich Hamstra officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, June 24, from 5:00 -8:00 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South West Michigan, or Grand Haven Christian School.
