Donald G. Struve

Donald G. Struve, age 89 of Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Heartwood Lodge. He was born on February 5, 1929 to the late Harold and Nellie (Shaffer) Struve in Ludington, MI. Donald married Kathryn VanderWall on April 16, 1971 in Grand Haven. Don served his country during World War II in the US Army Air Corp.

Don had been employed by Bastian Blessing for many years and Westshore Services of Allendale. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake, as well as the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. He loved to fish, feed the birds, and travel. As a grandfather of seven grandchildren, he always looked forward to spending as much time with them as he could.

Don will be remembered and missed by his wife of 47 years, Kathryn; daughters, Julie Dewald of Grand Haven and Judy Lollobrigida of Mission Viejo, CA; son, Jason (Dallas) Struve of Coopersville; grandchildren, Dakota Reynolds, Stephanie Struve, Gavin and Dominic Dewald, Donovan Grusnis, Aidan and Carson Struve; sister, Janet (Harvey) Jacobs of San Antonio, TX; four brothers-in-law; and three sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jami Jacobson; son, Jeffrey Struve; brothers, Lyle and Dale Struve; and sister, Nancy Nielson.

 A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Norm Droski officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 10th from 6 – 8 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home, and one hour prior to Thursday’s service at the church. Full military rites will be performed by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28.

Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Historic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary’s Light of Learning Campaign or St. Mary’s Food Pantry.
