Charles Henry Yonker, age 89, of Grand Haven passed away May 2, 2018 at Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born March 23, 1929 in Grand Haven to the late William and Jeanette (Poel) Yonker. Chuck married the former Joan Van Hall on August 9, 1987 in Muskegon. He was employed at Challenge Machinery for several years and retired from Rycenga Building Center in 1993. Chuck attended Spring Lake Presbyterian Church, and more recently United Methodist Church of the Dunes. He was in scouting for 25 years serving as a Cub Pack and Boy Scout leader. When his boys were younger, they joined Ferry School Cub Pack 3012 and then became members of Second Christian Reformed Church Troop 16. Chuck also served on the Grand Haven Harbor Board for 10 years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion (SAL) and involved with the American Legion Drum and Bugle Corp.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Joan; two daughters, Jean Yonker of Fruitport, Jill (Rich) Bayne of North Muskegon; three sons, Charles (Cindy) Yonker of Norton Shores, James (Cathy) Yonker of Racine, WI, and Steve (Mary Kay) Yonker of Shepherd. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; Jenny, Sara, Jay, Amy, Katie, Melissa, Maggie, Molly, Emma, Abigail, and Elizabeth; and one brother, Robert (Karen) Yonker. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anna Tripp; and two brothers, William and Clyde Yonker.
The Funeral Service for Chuck will be at 11:00 AM Monday, May 7, 2018 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with Pastor Eldon Eldred officiating. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to The Salvation Army or Hospice of Holland.
