Mrs. Betty A. (Rycenga) Rodrigues, age 89, of Grand Haven went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 28, 2019 after a short illness. She was born March 1, 1930 in Grand Haven to the late Charles and Sena (Tysman) Rycenga Sr. Betty married Alfred Rodrigues on June 18, 1988 in Grand Haven. He passed away December 11, 2002.
She lived in Grand Haven all of her life and taught at Christian Schools for 37 years, with the majority of the time at Grand Haven Christian, retiring in 1989. Betty was a very active member of Second Christian Reformed Church where she served as deaconess, Sunday school teacher, Bible Hour, sang in the choir, helped with the Friendship Club, and taught Bethel Bible Study. She was an avid golfer, reader, and loved to travel including the winter months in Haines City, FL.
She will lovingly be remembered by her nieces and nephews: Don Correll, Linda Boeskool (Bob), Bill Correll (Heidi), Mary Lou Retsema (Ron), Carol Folkert, Sharon Pell (Rod), Barbara Van Heuklelem (Bruce), John Rycenga (Marie), Nona Boer (David) Mary Beth Retsema, and Charles Rycenga III (Becky). Also surviving are 4 step-children: Kathy, Donna, Vickie, and Debbie.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Emma & Roy Correll, Louis & Betty Rycenga, and Charles & Eleanor Rycenga; nephew, David Folkert; and niece, Mary Jo Correll.
The Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Second Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Mike Koetje officiating. Friends are invited to meet the family on Sunday, August 4, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
