David "Dave" Lee VanWieren, age 74 of Grand Haven, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at North Ottawa Community Hospital. He was born on October 27, 1946 in Grand Haven, MI to the late Gilbert and Dorothy (Kooiker) VanWieren. David married the former Candace Hines on June 29, 1973 in Holland, MI.
Upon graduation from Spring Lake High School, Dave attended Western Michigan University, where he obtained his certification to be an Electrician. He worked for Boelens Electric and Ottawa Electric over the years, and most recently enjoyed working for the City of Grand Haven, retiring in 2009.
Dave was a member of the United Methodist Church of the Dunes and was a former member of Christ Community Church and Hope Reformed Church. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and traveling; especially to the mountains out west. He had a passion for the “Old West,” and always aspired to be a cowboy. Dave was a very talented wood-worker, which made him a great handy-man who could build or fix just about anything. He had a positive attitude, was a patient teacher, and was always willing to help a friend or neighbor. Most importantly, Dave was a good man and family-man who loved being a husband, father, and grandfather to his family.
Dave is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 47 years, Candy VanWieren; son-in-law and daughter, Chandler and Maria Woodruff of Dowagiac, MI; daughter, Beth VanWieren of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Olivia and Zoe Woodruff; brother, Tom (Connie) VanWieren of Rapid City, MI; and two nieces, Megan and Emily.
The Memorial Service for David will be held in the Spring of 2021, with date and time to be announced. Interment will be at Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery.
