Albert Peter Federico, Jr, age 81 of Grand Haven, passed away on November 16, 2020, at a local care facility. He was born on April 7, 1939, in Rochester, NY, to Albert Peter and Rose (Bonacci) Federico, Sr. Al married Susan Brow on November 23, 1974, in Muskegon, MI.
Albert graduated from Jefferson High School in Rochester, NY, Class of 1957, where he was captain of the soccer team. He proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard from 1958 to 1960. Al moved to the Tri-Cities area in 1960 and most recently worked for MediLodge at the Shore (formerly Shore Haven) in the maintenance department. Previously to that, Albert was a Fire-Fighter for Grand Haven Township Fire Department for many years. He rose through the ranks and was chief at the time of his retirement. He then volunteered for the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety in their Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (“RSVP”), and the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department.
Al was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post 28, and was previously past president of the Grand Haven Area Jaycee’s, and a Cub Scout leader. He enjoyed building model trains and airplanes, camping, boating, and snowmobiling. Al had a passion for History, especially the Civil War and World War II, and visited several battlefields over the years.
Al is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 45 years, Susan Federico; two daughters, Darcy (Paul) Bowen of Jackson, MI, and Christi (Phil) Gazella of Lexington, SC; his son, Nicholas Federico of Grand Haven; former daughter-in-law, Jessica Federico of Holland; grandchildren, Andrew and Emily Bowen; Lauren, Allison, and Daniel Gazella; Dominick, Isabella, and Alexander Federico; sister, Jeanne Harrison of Rochester, NY; and nephews, Robert Harrison, Scott (Kathy) Harrison, James (Susan) Harrison, David Harrison; and their children.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, George Harrison; and parents-in-law, Maurice (“Bud”) and Evelyn Brow.
The Memorial Service for Al will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Second Reformed Church with Pastor Dan Eisnor officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church.
