Thomas M. Gomez, age 99 of Grand Haven, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Heartwood Lodge. Thomas was born September 22, 1917 to Regino and Jacinta (Mariscal) Gomez in Guadalajara, Mexico. He married Marion G. Kraatz on August 8, 1941. Marion preceded him in death on August 24, 2016.  Tom was employed by General Motors at Willow Run, Ypsilanti, for 30 years, retiring in December 1976.  At 25, he served in the 88th Infantry Division, 349th Regiment during World War II, landing in South Africa and Italy, receiving the Purple Heart and awarded the Bronze Star. While serving his country, Tom proudly became a United States citizen. He is a life-long member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion. Tom enjoyed going to the casino, fishing and playing cards. He especially loved visiting with his kids. Tom is survived by his daughters, Marion (Wayne) Holden of Lecanto, FL, Gail (Bob) Marod of Grand Haven; sons, Wayne (Diane) Gomez of Kissimmee, FL, Danny Gomez of Westland, MI; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 75 years, Marion, his granddaughter, Elaine Gomez and daughter-in-law, Valarie Gomez. A memorial service for Tom will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
