Steve Karell

Steve Karell age 74 of Hesperia, formerly of Grand Haven passed away Saturday, April 29, 2017 at home. Steve was born March 9, 1943 to Stephen and Jean (Cameron) Karell in Grand Haven. He married Jean VanDop on February 17, 1962 in Spring Lake. Steve served on the Grand Haven Township Board of Trustee from 1980-2008 where he was instrumental in implementing the development of Pottawattomie Park as well as the bike path and many other township projects. He was an avid sport’s fan and was past owner and partner of Muskegon Fury. Steve was a sharp card player and enjoyed testing his skills at the casinos. He spent his leisure time tinkering with classic cars and enjoyed the “art of the deal”. During the winter months Steve and Jean wintered in Florida. Steve is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Lisa (Patrick) Nowlen of Orlando, FL; son, Randy (Marian) Karell of Hesperia; grandchildren, Andrew, Mitch, Mike, James, Brielle; sister, Jean (Roger) Ryan of Grand Haven; brother, Jon (DeNora) Karell; several nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Steve’s Life will take place at 6:00 pm Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home with a time of visitation to follow.
