Sondra L. Metzler

Sondra LaBell Metzler, age 77, of Grand Haven passed away on Friday, November 17, 2017. Sondra was born February 13, 1940 in Muskegon to John & Nina (Ward) Deephouse. She married Fred Metzler on August 15, 1964 and enjoyed 37 years of marriage prior to his passing on June 18, 2002. Sondra graduated from Central Michigan University with a B.A. in Education and was a dedicated teacher for Grand Haven Public Schools for more than 30 years. She taught 1st & 2nd Grade, and before her retirement in 2000, she was a Kindergarten Teacher at Ferry School. Sondra was an active member of United Methodist Church of the Dunes, serving for many funerals, various church events and as a member of Ruth Circles. She was active in various community organizations for many years, including Questors of West Michigan & the Grand Haven Jaycee’s Auxiliary. Sondra is survived by her daughter, Susan Ann Metzler & grandson, Jeffery Metzler of Grand Haven; brothers, Jess Deephouse of Fremont & Melvin (Marguerite) Deephouse of Burlington, Wisconsin; 6 nieces & nephews and close friend, Ruth Wallinga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, brother, Lee Deephouse and sister-in-law, Donna Deephouse. The Funeral Service for Sondra will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 at United Methodist Church of the Dunes with Pastor Lou Grettenberger & Pastor Eldon Eldred officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will be at United Methodist Church of the Dunes Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church of the Dunes Memorial Fund.
