Shirley C. (Cleverdon) Soper

Shirley C. Soper, age 86 of Spring Lake, formerly of Jackson, MI, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at a local care facility. Shirley was born December 19, 1929 to Adlia and Robena (Stephens) Cleverdon in Big Rapids, MI. She attended both Ferris State University and Central Michigan University where she earned a degree in library science. Shirley married Howard Soper on June 24, 1950 in Big Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1992. Shirley worked as a secretary for the Farwell Area Schools, then later as a librarian for the Jackson District Library System. Shirley was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jackson. She enjoyed playing the piano and traveling with various senior groups. Shirley will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Nan (John Tarr) Soper and Lynn Soper, both of Grand Haven; son Mark (Becky) Soper of Ruckersville, VA; grandchildren Janet, Ryan and Dylan. The funeral service for Shirley will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 20, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, 275 W. Michigan Ave. Jackson, MI, with Dr. Eric S. Beck officiating.
