Rolf Hendrik Beerhorst

Rolf Hendrik Beerhorst age 91 of Caledonia, formerly of Kentwood, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017. Rolf was born July 29, 1925 to Rolf H. and Margaretha (Roorda) Beerhorst in Sassenheim, The Netherlands. After WWII, Rolf immigrated to Grand Rapids, MI and soon after became a proud citizen of the United States. He married Althea Bassett, who preceded him in death in 1970. He later married Roberta Borst on June 23, 1972.Rolf retired as a Regional Credit Manager for Erb Lumber Company in 1998 after 20 years of service. He was a member of the Grand Rapids International Fellowship where he previously served on their board. Rolf enjoyed reading, daily walks, listening to music and doing yard work at his home. He was a devoted husband and father who worked tirelessly to make the best life possible for his family. Rolf was a great conversationalist and will be remembered for the advice he shared often “Do all things with excellence”. Rolf will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years, Roberta; daughters, Marian (Donald) Kidd of Huntington, PA, Linda (Rodney) Breyer of Reading, PA, Laura (Brian) Hyde of Warren, MI, Lisa (William) Marshall of Mayfield, KY; sons, Raymond (Sally) Beerhorst of Hamilton, MI, Richard (Brenda) Beerhorst of Grand Rapids; Lee (Kathryn) Borst of Prescott, AZ; 37 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Annie Beerhorst, Margaret Wijers, Leny Beerhorst; brother, Theodore (Riet) Beerhorst; sister-in-law, Elly Beerhorst all of The Netherlands . He was preceded in death by his sisters, Henrietta Wilkerson, Betsy Smid, Hennie DeJager, Cathy Muller and brothers, Andrew, Adrian and John Beerhorst. The funeral service for Rolf will be 11:00 am Saturday, April 15, 2017 at Grand Rapids International Fellowship with Dr. Craig Dillman and Dr. Branson Roberts, Sr. officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm Friday, April 14, 2017 at Zaagman Memorial Chapel 2800 Burton Street SE Grand Rapids, MI and one hour prior to the service at the church.
