Paul B. vandenBerg age 60 of Grand Haven passed away unexpectedly Friday, May 12, 2017. Paul was born March 25, 1957 to Jack and Lillian (Holtrop) vandenBerg in Grand Haven. He married Susan Carlson on September 15, 1979. Paul owned and operated vandenBerg Excavating, Inc. He was known to his family, friends and neighbors for his strong faith, generous spirit and compassionate heart. Paul was a member of Nortonville Gospel Chapel where he served on the board and as a deacon. He was a member of the choir and shared his musical talent at local nursing homes during worship services. Paul was a former member of Trinity Reformed Church having served as deacon and choir member. He was active in Tuesday Morning Bible Studies at Ottawa Reformed Church. In addition to singing, Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, with special attention given to his eight grandchildren. Paul will be lovingly remembered by his wife Susan; daughters, Elizabeth (Tim) Reynolds of Grand Haven, Sarah (Rob) Burggraaf of West Columbia, SC; sons, Andrew (Hana) vandenBerg of Holland, James (Melissa) vandenBerg of Grand Haven; grandchildren, Benjamin Heinrich, Hannah Henrich, Lydia Reynolds, Johnathan Reynolds, Olivia Burggraaf, Ethan Burggraaf, Abigail Burggraaf, Elena vandenBerg; mother, Lillian vandenBerg of Grand Haven; sister, Ruth vandenBerg of Grand Haven; brother, Dr. Peter (Anita) vandenBerg of Denmark, Maine; mother-in-law, Mary Rose of Spring Lake; sisters-in-law, Joan (Gary) Kessler of Grand Haven, Nancy (Joe) Coon-Hawkey of Fruitport, Sandra (Clay) Creswell of Norton Shores; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack vandenBerg; brother, James vandenBerg; sister, Mary vandenBerg; grandson, Micah Heinrich; father-in-law, Roger Carlson; step-father-in-law, Chuck Rose. The funeral service for Paul will be 11:00 am Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Nortonville Gospel Chapel with Pastor Joe O’Neill and Pastor Dennis Snyder officiating. Interment will be in Grand Haven Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 pm Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
