Mary Lou Hook, age 85 of Spring Lake passed away Monday, February 8, 2016 at Sanctuary at the Shore.  She was born July 26, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Katherine Bush (Zahler.)  She moved to Evergreen Apartments in Spring Lake in 2011. Mary Lou was a devout Catholic and sports fan.  She loved her Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and Ohio State Buckeyes. She followed them closely her entire life, and enjoyed talking sports to anyone that would listen.   She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, scrabble, cooking and was very active in her children’s activities to include scouting at various levels.  After moving to Houghton Lake in 1977, she was one of the founding members of the Houghton Lake Booster Club that was formed to help support athletic department funding. While living in Jackson, MI she was an active member of Queens of the Miraculous Medal Church, where she also served as editor of the parish newspaper. Mary Lou is survived by three children: Karen Schneider of Jackson; Kevin (Linda) Hook of Spring Lake; and Patrick (Janet) Hook of Camden, South Carolina. Three siblings: Kathleen O'Neill of Washington D.C.; John "Jack" Bush (Carol) of Rocky River, OH; and Thomas Bush (Meredith) of Medina, OH; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister Anna Jane; and a son Mark (Cadillac, MI.) and former husband Durwood. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Hospice of North Ottawa Community and the caring staff at Sanctuary at the Shore. A funeral mass celebrating her life will be held at 1:30 on Thursday, Feb 11 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev.Fr. David Gross presiding.
