Louise (Harmening) Borta

Louise B. Borta, age 91 of Grand Haven passed away Sunday, June 21, 2015 surrounded by her family. Louise was born March 13, 1924 to Ferdinand and Martha (Loth) Harmening in St. Louis, Missouri. She married Irving “Chick” Borta on June 15, 1946 in St. Louis and the following year moved to Grand Haven.  Louise was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she was past member of Women’s Circle, served as deacon, sang in the choir and played on the golf league. She was also a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. Louise worked for Bretschneider Photography Studio for 10 years prior to working for Steketee’s as a sales clerk for more than 12 years. She loved to travel and spent the past 20 years wintering in Florida and Alabama. Louise enjoyed knitting prayer shawls and bowling. She loved her granddogs but particularly loved all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Louise is survived by her loving husband, Irving (Chick); sons, James (Pat) Borta of Huntersville,NC, Michael (Vickie) Borta of DeWitt, MI, Greg (Sue) Borta of Spring Lake; grandchildren, Jackie (Carver) Sinn, Danielle (Shane) Strayer, Cody (Chelsea Vives) Borta, Ashley Borta, Joshua Borta; great grandchildren, Alex and Paige Strayer; 2 nieces and 2 nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Robert Borta and sister-in-law, Dorothy Borta. The funeral service for Louise will be 11:00 am Friday, June 26, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Linda Male officiating. Interment will be in Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family from 6:00-8:00 pm Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Klaassen Family Funeral Home.
