Katherine Stella Beckett, age 75 of Grand Haven, passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at her home surrounded by family, after a courageous battle with Lymphoma. Kathy was born September 24, 1942 to the late Louis and Sophie (Maciejewski) Szymas in Grand Haven. She married Robert Beckett on May 25, 1985 in Grand Haven, and he preceded her in death on July 1, 2014. Kathy was a lifelong resident of Grand Haven, and worked for 39 years at Harbor Industries, retiring in 2003 to spend more time with her husband at their winter home in Zephyrhills, Florida. Kathy was a long time member of St. Patrick’s –St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, a member of the Alter Society, and loved hosting the birthday lunches once a month at Church. She enjoyed spending time with family, and looked forward to the weekly visits from her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great-great nieces and nephews. She was often found riding her golf cart around the neighborhood. Some of her many hobbies included playing Bingo weekly, an occasional visit to the casino, taking painting classes at Four Pointes Senior Center, and attending Brown Bag lunches with her former classmates. She also enjoyed going out to dinner at Culver’s. Kathy’s wish before God took her home was to have a Celebration of Life Party with her family and friends. She was so happy to see everyone at the party she hosted on April 8, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, which included music and karaoke. Kathy will be lovingly missed by her sister, Sophie (Bruno) Olechnowicz; nieces and nephews, Janice (Greg) VandenBrink, Kathleen (James) McManus, Marcia Werschem and Mike Guzman, Bruno (Lindy) Olechnowicz Jr., Mike (Julie) Olechnowicz; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; sisters, Louise Szymas, Mary Szymas; and her brother, Henry Szymas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Charles Swartz officiating. Friends and relatives may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the Church. Interment will be in Robinson Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick’s- St. Anthony’s Parish or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
