Harlan Hockenbraugh
September 2, 1923 ~ July 19, 2015 (age 91) 91 Years OldHarlan J. Hockenbraugh of Grand Haven went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday July 19, 2015 at home. He was born to Sadie (Beekman) and Harlan Hockenbraugh on September 2, 1923 in Grand Haven, MI. He graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1941. He served in the US Army during WWII in Europe and The Philippines. He worked as an accountant, retiring in 1982. In 2004 he married longtime family friend Joyce DeWitt and moved back to the Grand Haven area. He had many interests in life including sports and his extended families in CA, NV and MI and many friends. He was an active member of Grand Haven Community Baptist Church in Grand Haven. He is survived by his wife Joyce; children, Dale (Becky) Hockenbraugh of Redlands, CA; Linda (Pete) Zabloudil of Henderson, NV; Beverly Wilkes of San Bernardino, CA; Mary Hockenbraugh of Highlands, CA. Grandchildren, Jeffery and Robert Hockenbraugh; Kristy Winters of CA. Great-granchildren, Kara Lynn and Dustin Winters of CA. Stepchildren, Bonnie (John) Benes; Roberta (Dr. John) Leenhouts; Barbara Sobolik; Lorene (Patrick) Smith; Judith (Mark Gillette) Geneva, and their families, all of whom reside in Grand Haven and Edward (Marie) Andrea; Harold (Kathy) Andrea and families of CA. In-laws, Verna Schoonveld; Lewis (Mary) Goodin all of Grand Haven, Donna Shaw of NV; Fran DeWitt of NC and many very special grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and very special relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harlan and Sadie Hockenbraugh, wives, Esther and Marjorie, son Lester Hockenbraugh, brothers, Charles (Ann) and Richard Hockenbraugh, brother-in-law, David Shaw, sister-in-law, Louise DeWitt and stepson, Thomas Sobolik. The memorial service for Harlan will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday July 24th 2015 at Grand Haven Community Baptist Church with Pastor Ray Paget officiating. Full military rites will be administered by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. Interment will be in Grand Haven Township Lakeshore Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
