Gloria L. (Ekkens) Scott

Gloria Lorraine Scott, age 92, of Grand Haven passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017. Gloria was born April 11, 1925 in Grand Rapids to the late William & Beulah (Wallender) Ekkens. She married Albert “Scottie” Scott Jr. on November 15, 1946 in Grand Haven. He passed away on January 20, 1991. Gloria worked as a book keeper for her husband’s Beechtree Gulf gas station for many years. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxillary & the V.F.W. Auxillary. Gloria volunteered for many years as a Girl Scout Leader.  She was an avid reader, especially mystery books. Gloria enjoyed knitting and would knit slippers for family members at Christmas and make ornaments every Christmas for the grandkids and great-grandkids. She loved spending time with her grandchildren & great-grandchildren. Gloria was known for her special pancake recipe. She lived for her “Happy Hours” with family & friends. Gloria is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Tom) Wertime; grandchildren, Troy (Lisa) DeJonge and children, (Josh, Shane, Tate, Carter, Terick); Tracy (Jeff) Bennett and children, (Evan, Emma, Abby);  Matthew (Erica) Swartz and children, (Taylor, Eliseo, Enrique); Great-grandchildren, (Jackson, Zedric, Finn,) sister, Beverly Meehan; numerous nieces & nephews; also surviving are dear close friends, Lynn Smith & Helen Ball. She was preceded in death by daughter, Shirley DeJonge; Granddaughter, Mindy Sirrine; sister, Dorothy Stephaniak; brothers, John & Bob Ekkens. A Celebration of Life for Gloria will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the American Legion, Charles Conklin Post #28. Interment will be at Lake Forest Cemetery.
